GTAsia welcomes Dr. Anton Malkin as a Senior Research Associate. From 2012-2013 he was a Senior Visiting Scholar in the School of International Studies at Peking University. He holds a PhD Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Anton’s most recent achievement is his publication Made in China 2025 as a Challenge in Global Trade Governance: Analysis and Recommendations.  A fluent Mandarin speaker and accomplished researcher on China, Anton will add his extensive expertise on foreign direct investment intellectual property issues.

Eddyfi Technologies confirms the acquisition of Inuktun, a well-known developer and manufacturer of remotely operated crawlers and camera systems. Following successful development of the ASEAN and Korean markets, GTAsia will cede distribution back to Eddyfi in a gradual handover during 2019.

GTAsia welcomes Craig Wilson as Senior Research Associate. Craig is a multi-lingual (Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, French) trained economist with a career in Canada’s Foreign Service including four assignments in greater China (Chongqing, Taipei, Beijing, Hong Kong). He has specialised in strategic policy and innovation issues for over four decades, with an enviable record of geo-strategic and economic policy work, including experience in WTO, UN, and APEC as an officer of the Canadian Foreign Service. Craig contributed to the Canadian Government’s 2007 Trade Strategy and and the 2015-18 Aboriginal Entrepreneurship project, nurturing exporting skills.

The GTAsia exclusive report “The Canadian AI Ecosystem: A 2018 Profile” is released, highlighting the enormous economic potential for Canadian AI firms. We now turn to examining markets for those firms. McKinsey estimated in a 2017 report that existing AI technologies could automate approximately 50% of work activities in ASEAN’s four largest economies, an estimated $900 billion in wages.
